Cyprus wasn’t on the list. Then we ended up there for my birthday.
We never planned to go to Cyprus. At all.
Then Greece happened. We met these girls while sailing working on a luxury boat, absolute legends. At some point they casually said, “Come to Cyprus when we’re done.” A few weeks later we actually did. Just booked it. Kinda out of the way, but flights from Athens weren’t terrible. So crazy you meet someone once and suddenly you’re flying to another country to see them. We landed at 1am. Straight into a 76 euro Uber. Painful. But whatever we were in Cyprus.
The island’s split in two. We stayed on the south side with the Greek Cypriot crowd, plus a few Brits on holiday. Somewhere in between all that I turned 24. In Cyprus. So cool.
Friends owned the watersports and beach bars so everything was free. I spent my birthday parasailing and drinking at Tulum Beach Party. Food wise? I ate everything. Cookies. Sushi. Spaghetti bolognese. Traditional Cyprus BBQ at a friend’s place. Zorbas Bakery became our second home.
Five months in Europe ended on a high, good times full stomach and tanned skin.
